Scrum
Iterative delivery in fixed-length sprints
✅ Best for
Software product development with evolving requirements, cross-functional teams of 3–9 people
❌ Not for
Hardware projects, highly regulated environments requiring upfront sign-off, teams < 3 or > 9
5 phases
Product Backlog Refinement
Product Owner and team break down and estimate backlog items. Stories are sized, acceptance criteria defined, and dependencies identified.
Sprint Planning
Team selects backlog items for the sprint, defines the Sprint Goal, and breaks stories into tasks. Capacity is checked against commitment.
Sprint Execution (1–4 weeks)
Team builds, tests, and integrates working software daily. Daily Standup (15 min) surfaces blockers. Scrum Master removes impediments.
Sprint Review
Team demonstrates working software to stakeholders. Product Owner accepts or rejects stories. Feedback shapes the next sprint.
Sprint Retrospective
Team reflects on process, identifies improvements, and commits to specific actions for the next sprint.
